Meet the team

Rob de la Mare

CEO

Rob has 30 years’ experience in operations. He started his career at Barings, before moving to Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (now part of BlackRock). Rob then joined Majedie Asset Management, an investment boutique, at its inception in 2002.

He was responsible for devising, building and managing Majedie’s operational infrastructure. Rob was Operations Director when he left Majedie in 2022. He is a co-founder of QSM Asset Management.

Matthew Smith

Portfolio Manager

Matthew has 29 years’ investment experience in global equity markets. He holds a BSc in Geophysical Sciences from Southampton University. Matthew started his career at NPI in 1994 before moving on to Credit Suisse First Boston and then Deutsche Bank.

In 2006 Matthew joined Majedie Asset Management, an investment boutique. In 2007 he launched and lead managed the Tortoise Fund, an equity long/short fund. He continued to lead manage the Tortoise Fund for the next 16 years, including for a year at Liontrust after it acquired Majedie in 2022. He is a co-founder of QSM Asset Management.

Tom Morris

Portfolio Manager

Tom has 14 years’ investment experience in global equity markets. He holds an MSc in Natural Sciences, specialising in Physics, from St Catharine’s College, Cambridge and is a CFA Charterholder. Tom joined Majedie Asset Management, an investment boutique, as a graduate in 2009.

He was appointed Co-Manager of the Tortoise Fund in 2013. In 2014 he also started to manage a portion of the Global Equity and Global Focus long only funds. Tom continued to co-manage the Tortoise, Global Equity and Global Focus funds for another nine years, including for a year at Liontrust after it acquired Majedie in 2022. He is a co-founder of QSM Asset Management.

James Jackson

Head of Operations

James has 26 years’ investment experience in operations. James started his career at the Bank of England. In 1998 he moved to Mercury Asset Management (subsequently acquired by Merrill Lynch Investment Managers and now part of BlackRock). James joined Majedie Asset Management in 2003, shortly after it was founded.

He was originally responsible for helping to build the operational infrastructure at Majedie, before moving onto the trading side. He spent 7 years as Head of Trading, responsible for global execution, before he left Majedie in 2022. He is a co-founder of QSM Asset Management.

Tinger Wen

Investment Analyst

Tinger has 6 years’ investment experience in global equity markets. He holds an MEng in Materials Science from Mansfield College, Oxford and is a CFA Charterholder. Tinger joined Majedie Asset Management as a graduate in 2017. He has worked as an Analyst for the Tortoise Fund for 6 years, including for a year at Liontrust after it acquired Majedie in 2022.

Harry Steel

Head of Investor Relations

Harry has 20 years’ experience in investor relations and client service. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Countryside Management from Newcastle University and the CFA UK Investment Management Certificate (IMC) . Harry started his career as a soldier, serving for eight years as an officer in the Royal Green Jackets, an infantry regiment, before joining Jupiter Asset Management’s sales team in 2004. In 2011, he moved to Majedie Asset Management, where he spent the subsequent decade as a Client Director, with his main focus on Tortoise Fund investors. When Liontrust acquired Majedie in 2022, he took on the role of Head of Institutional Business. Harry left Liontrust in September 2023.

Andrew Sweeting

Investment Analyst

Andrew has 11 years’ experience in global equity markets. He holds a BEng in Chemical Engineering from UCL and an MBA from Imperial College. Andrew started his career as an equity analyst at NatWest Markets (now Deutsche Bank), then moved to Schroders Securities (now Citigroup) before joining Credit Suisse First Boston (now UBS), where he first worked with Matthew. Between leaving CSFB and joining QSM Asset Management Andrew moved to France, completed a degree in Osteopathy and spent 15 years working in the healthcare sector running his own practice.  Andrew joined QSM Asset Management in 2024.
